I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it
George Bernard Shaw

Siang ak Rant, 49, is the head of Kampung Sibakar, one of the last villages located at Puncak Borneo, about 58 kilometers from Kuching and just next to Kalimantan border.

Raising pigs with organic farming

In the early days, due to pests and diseases and high farming costs, many farmers believe that farming no longer has any profit. However, this did not stop him from pursuing his passion for raising pigs with the concept of organic farming, and continued to do so. Siang cannot think of any reason to not farming in a more organic way because he believed it is the best farming system and it is also environmentally friendly. He feeds the pigs with fruits and vegetables such as banana leaf, green-leaf vegetable and also probiotic. At the same time, Siang gathered and led half of the villagers to build a community of like-minded farmers who understand that organic farming is actually beneficial and more environmentally friendly.

Impressive variety of crops

Aside from pigs, Siang also dedicates a part of his farm to growing crops. Spread out around the farm is an impressive variety of crops which includes but are not limited to lemongrass, ginger, bananas(Emas/Padi), papaya, white yam, and white sweet potatoes!

MCO also affected him and the villagers badly. Nevertheless, it turns out that their organic products are started to be on sale online and channeled to more consumers through this Borneo Farmer Adoption Project!

They are the most vigorous, the most independent, the most virtuous, and they are tied to their country and wedded to its liberty and interests by the most lasting bonds.” ― Thomas Jefferson. We look forward to collaborating and assisting Mr. Siang in sustainable farming and marketing more of his products and attracting more potential customers for his product through Farmily. Stay tuned for more updates on his journey towards sustainability!
