Kampung Bratan, located 15.5 kilometres away from the Kuching International Airport, a 24 minute away from the Kuching city to a relaxing, serene kampung atmosphere. Mr Elvis, a farmer from Kampung Bratan has been living his life in the world of farming and appreciating the nature that surrounds him.

Mr. Elvis's Plantation Side

As he owns a big land nearby to his house, he had an initiative to use that opportunity to make a plantation site. From time to time, he manages his farm with his wife and grandchild. He has various kinds of crops such as cempedak, asam mempelam, durian, pepper, rambutan, rambai, chilli, ginger, banana, coconut, ubi kayu, pineapple, langsat, petai, jering, Nangka, pinang, and terung. As his farm requires an ample amount of water, he uses a pipe system from home for the plantation around the house. However, this water system is not available for other plantation site as it mostly depends on rainwater.

Elvis is one of the most hard-working farmers we have ever met. Despite having had a stroke for years, he is still determined to pursue and cultivate his passion in agricultural life. This is because he believes that he has a life that he needs to support, which is his family, and that is what encourages him to move forward in his passion.

Chicken Manure

Every farmer faces different challenges every day, and that is what makes farming experience to be very valuable. Mr Elvis shared that squirrels tend to cause damage and destroy his tapioca plants and is currently trying to find ways on solving that issue. Aside from that, he uses chicken manure to increase the fertility of the soil. In order to prepare the soil mix, he uses chilli.

In the near future, Mr Elvis plans to plant more banana, lemon, and chilli. It is believed that farmers dedicated to how they raise their livestock are leaders in protecting people, animals, and environmental health.
